About Media City Bergen™
Together, the major media and media tech industry in Bergen have established Media City Bergen™, the Nordic countries’ first media city. The founders, TV 2, NRK, Vizrt, The University of Bergen (Dept. of Information Science and Media Studies), Bergens Tidende and Bergensavisen are now co-located under the same roof in Bergen city center. There are also several other media technology companies working in a variety of fields located here – from 3D, animation, games, film and music, to mobile, app development, drones and sensor technology. In the south tower you will find the brand new cutting edge media lab, as well as a startup lab for entrepreneurship and business development. The new science and media hub, Media City Bergen™, spanning more than 45,000 square meters, is the workplace of 1,200 people in the media industry.
Media City Bergen™ is not a traditional office building. With a massive digital screen on the exterior wall, and the spacious and welcoming atrium within, it is a vibrant meeting place not only for the industry, but also for the people of Bergen. A variety of events will be held here, from live broadcasts, debates and interviews to student pitches. The building has restaurants and coffee bars that are open to all visitors.
Entra, one of Norway’s leading real estate companies and an industry leader in developing and managing energy efficient buildings, constructed Media City Bergen™ on behalf of the Norwegian Media Cluster, and it was designed by the architect firm MAD. Together, they have created a landmark building that stands out as an icon in the city as well as in the global media landscape.
Media City Bergen™ is the hub and the heart of the Norwegian Media Cluster, not only for those loated in the Media City building, but for the cluster at large, which, at the last count, comprised over 90 members.
