News Angler – Discovering Unexpected Connections in the News

How do we apply semantic technologies to publish news in different angles?

When

11. June.

Time: 10:00 - 10:45

What

News Angler is a project that uses new information and communication technologies to leverage big data and social media. The project’s purpose is to explore computer tools that can help journalists finding new and unexpected background information, angles and stories. Information is harvested from textual sources, such as social media, commercial news aggregators, and open reference sources.

A central technique is knowledge graphs and other so-called semantic technologies, which offer a standard form for representing information and knowledge. In this way, the collected information can be analysed, retrieved, and shared more easily and precisely in new ways. The project is a collaboration between Wolftech and the University of Bergen, and is supported by the Research Council of Norway.

PS: This seminar will be held in English.
