AI Breakfast Seminar

How will AI transform our lives and society, and how will it effect our work? What are the possibilities ahead, and how can AI be used in the newsroom?

- Thomas F. Anglero, the Director of Innovation for IBM Norway and responsible for IBM Watson and innovation.
- Codruta Gamulea leads Product Development at Orbit, an AI technology venture by Norwegian digital studio & venture builder Bakken & Bæck.
- Eirik Solheim, Strategic advisor in NRK and the Media Cluster´s very own Chief Nerd.

Tuesday, 9AM to Wednesday 6PM:

Hackathon

Can you solve the visions of modern banking? Or how, if it was totally up to you, would you build Bergen Kommune 2.0? Using the media cluster core competence in viztech, mediatech and communication, teams will work solving major challenges in today's society.

We are welcoming developers, designers, entrepreneurs and creative people who are studying or working within media, tech, strategy or innovation, to a 24-hour hackathon in Media City Bergen Media Lab, followed by presentations to our judges.

Presenting: Wednesday at 3pm all teams will pitch their work to the judges.

VR THURSDAY: AR/VR/360 Video Breakfast Seminar 

MCB Media Lab, in cooperation with VR Oslo, invites everybody in the Media Cluster to a fun and interesting day of VR, AR and 360 video.

- Oslo and Akershus Community College Maker Space : Brain control in VR
- Adapa360º: The space race and how media tech will lift humanity to Mars
- TenkLab: Neuro science perspectives on human-computer interaction 
- International Virtual Photography Association (IVRPA): The state of today's technology and how get started.

Thursday 11AM-3PM:

AR/VR/360 EXPO

This will be your chance to have a go at the latest AR/VR/360 video technology, and try for yourself how the future reality feels and looks like.

Exhibitors:

  • Adapa360 displays camera rig with 3 x 250 degree lenses and Hololens projects.
  • HIOA with test of Mind control in VR with Minecraft and mind control in Hololens
  • Visualiz – VR collab and real life scale model interaction
  • TenkLabs - 3D model sculpting in VR
  • Vimond  / UIB – Hololens in media production project
  • IVRPA - European Centre for Journalism project - 3D 360 images.

No registration needed. For guests located in Media City Bergen, ring doorbell outside Media Lab (Tower 3, 9th floor).

For guests without access: Meeting point every 30 minutes from 11am at Odd Frantzensplass 5 (MCB entrance) where you will be guided to the Media Lab. Last pickup will be at 3pm.

Breakfast Seminar:

How can researchers and journalists work together? What are the strengths and weaknesses in such a collaboration?

You will meet historian Terje Tvedt from the University of Bergen and NRK journalist Per Christian Magnus. Talks and debate in Norwegian. The event is a collaboration between the University of Bergen and NCE Media.

Friday 12-2PM:

Research seminar: Making TV social

Dr Niki Strange and Professor James Bennett are presenting recent finding from two research papers; "Twitter is the world's biggest sofa” and “It's got 99% of the DNA of producing for TV, but it's that 1% that can make all the difference".

You will meet:

  • James Bennett is Professor of Television and Digital Culture at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is co-director of the Centre for the History of Television Culture & Production and leader of the ERC-funded ADAPT social media project.
  • Dr Niki Strange is currently Post Doctoral Researcher, ADAPT Social Media Project at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is also an innovation and business strategist for creative media companies.

Friday 3PM-5PM:

Friday Fun and Humor for Grown Ups

We invite you to an afternoon of entertainment, standup, media quiz with a special twist and light refreshments, snacks and drinks. Our main guest this afternoon is comedian Christoffer Schjelderup, who many of you might know from the podcast Pappapanelet, which is produced in Media City Bergen.

The Media Cluster Chief Entertainment Officer, Kristian Bruarøy, will present the activities of the day - this time mostly a special media quiz with a set of intricate questions - and will be merciless with those who don’t have a clear answer. In other words: Easy Friday entertainment, slightly outside our control and core competence.
